Let's Get Coffee: At Sump
I am no coffee expert, but I do love to drink it. And one of my favorite things to do is to go have some coffee with a friend.
People often ask me for advice on where to go for coffee, so I am starting this new series titled "Let's Get Coffee" to answer your questions! I will post about my favorite spots in the area, in no certain order.
Today I'm starting with Sump Coffee in South City.
This place is visually stunning to me, even from the front door. So many great design choices, including a skull with a great beard. But the inside is even more beautiful (see below).
This is, like, a no-nonsense coffee shop. You won't find any frappucinos or pumpkin lattes or even a pastry case. It's just about the coffee. Which can be a little intimidating at first; you'd think they're all coffee snobs there or something, but actually they're all very kind and will help you order if you need it.
I ordered a pour over. I have a lot of friends who are more educated on the art or pour overs, but if you're not familiar here's a basic video to show you how it works: Manual Pour Over.
I always drink coffee black, but I'm not sure if Sump even has any sweeteners or creamers available. You can get milk there though. They brewed my coffee and then brought it out in this little carafe, which I love. I don't know if it's a mental thing, but I really do think coffee tastes better when it's brewed just for you. It also stays hotter and the flavors are fuller.
My friend Krista ordered a cortado, which is just made up of espresso and milk. And look how pretty they made it! And look how pretty Krista is! ;)
My experiences at Sump have always been positive, and the coffee (which is roasted in-house) is so special and delicious. This place is definitely one I recommend trying, and maybe take me with you too.
