Back-to-back coffee posts! If you didn't see yesterday's visit to Sump Coffee, check it out! My friend Krista and I hit up two of my favorite coffee places on Monday: Sump and Cafe Ventana.
If you're looking for a place with tons of charm, delicious pastries and good coffee, Cafe Ventana is just right.
Cafe Ventana is near (but not in) the Central West End, right by St Louis University. Which explains why the place is always full of college students studying. The cafe has tons of points of interest, like a clear window set into the floor to let you watch employees baking below in the kitchen, and a funky bathroom (complete with a crazy ceiling collage, a chandelier and a chalkboard wall). Sometimes there's even live music playing.
The pastry case is always full and beautiful, and I've heard they've got some good "real" food too, but honestly the only food I ever get there are these BEAUTIFUL BEIGNETS.
There really aren't a lot of places in the area that you can get these little guys, and the ones at Ventana are delish!
To drink, I got this beautiful, foamy soy latte (typically my choice if I don't get black coffee....I don't like "real" milk).
My friend Krista and I split the beignets, and she got a regular coffee.
Cafe Ventana is a great place to hang out, but I've also gotten beignets and coffees to-go and taken them to the Muny with me before (or you could do a little picnic or whatever). It's always bustling, but not to the point where you can't find a seat, and unless there is live music, the atmosphere stays pretty quiet and serene.
What I'm saying is, if you want to meet up with me here as well, I will not say no.
