4 in 1 Book Review

A few of the greatest comediennes of our time have released best-selling autobiographies in the last couple of years. I thought I'd compare the books today and share my opinions on them.

As you can see, I've ranked the books with prize ribbons that I found in Clip Art. I think the authors would all be really excited to know they received these prestigious awards.

1. Bossypants by Tina Fey
So wonderful. This is the only book out of the four that truly had me laughing out loud, to the point of TEARS.  If you're only going to read one of them, this is what I'd recommend. It is also important to note that she is my hero. The chapter called "The Secrets of Mommy's Beauty" is comedic gold. I love that she's such a confident and beautiful woman but also so in touch with her awkward childhood/teenage/college/current self.

2. Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling
I was super excited to find out Mindy was writing a 2nd book, and it did not disappoint. I think it was even better than her first. In this book, she writes her personal stories as short essays, which is ideal for me and my wandering attention span. Topics include her dating life, her career, some humorous but dead-on life advice, and eating lots of McDonald's. There's also a particularly great section where she imagines how her life might look if she had decided to follow a more traditional career path.

3. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) also by Mindy Kaling
Both of Mindy's books are very conversational, just like you're talking to a friend. And there's nothing really wrong with this book at all, I just felt like I had more of a fun experience reading #1 and #2. In this book, I love the chapter called "My Favorite Eleven Moments in Comedy", where she literally just lists some of her favorite things that other comedians have done that have made her laugh (including Tina Fey, Chris Farley and Steve Carrell).

4. Yes Please by Amy Poehler
This book had really good moments and some fun pictures, but was just not what I was expecting. It was a lot less comedic than I hoped, especially after reading the others. You can expect to read about a lot of drug usage, and to feel really sad about her divorce from Will Arnett all over again. But if you're a Seth Meyers fan, he guest-writes one of the chapters!

What other funny ladies would you like to see writing a book?
I vote for Kristen Schaal!
