Well, it's almost October, so I thought I'd post some suggestions for music to get you in the mood for trick-or-treating, watching scary movies and going to Halloween parties.
If you've ever heard a Halloween music playlist before, you probably heard the following:
1. "Monster Mash"
2. "Thriller"
3. Random Halloween Noises (witch cackles, werewolf howls, screams, etc.)
and
4. "Monster Mash" again, because there are no other Halloween songs and the playlist has started over.
Today I'm giving you a Halloween-inspired playlist that thinks a little outside the box, and you can listen to it throughout the entire month of October without people thinking you're crazy. Not every song is in-your-face Halloween, but they each have that vibe to them.
1. "Put a Spell on You" by She & Him
I know this isn't the original version, but this one's pretty *magical*.
2. "Is There a Ghost" by Band of Horses
Currently one of my favorite bands, but Bryan totally liked them first and I just copied-catted.
3. "Rhiannon" by Fleetwood MacStevie Nicks= The Best.
4. "Caught Myself" by Paramore
I wouldn't call myself a Twilight fan, but the soundtracks were good! And I am a long time Paramore fan. I love that all of their songs are so distinctly them.
I
5. "Back to Black" by Amy Winehouse
Just an FYI, this one's got some inappropriate words/content in it. So feel free to skip it if you want. But Amy's voice was really something special.
6. "I Miss You" by Blink 182
Listen to the lyrics for a small tribute to The Nightmare Before Christmas in the first verse! The video is pretty creepy too.
7. "Spiderwebs" by No Doubt
Because there's almost nothing better than 90's No Doubt. Man, this video takes me back!
8. "C'est la Mort" by The Civil Wars
This song is very gloomy, but beautiful. Which sums up The Civil Wars band pretty well, actually.
9. "Help, I'm Alive" by MetricThis song has got a creepy feel, but it's upbeat enough to workout or dance to.
10. ANYTHING FROM THE WICKED SOUNDTRACK, but I chose "Defying Gravity" sung by Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel (yes, Elsa)I don't listen to a lot of broadway show soundtracks, but nothing compares to Wicked. And seeing it live is even better somehow. The story actually has nothing to do with Halloween, but the wicked witch is the star of the show.
What do you guys think of my list? What would you add?
(Don't say "Monster Mash")
