The Gilmore Boys

Okay, a couple of my friends have specifically requested a Gilmore Girls post, and considering that this is one of my favorite TV shows of all time, I was happy to oblige.

So let's just get right down to the most important question we all ask about this show.
What guy should've ended up with Rory?

I've got some opinions, but they're a little complicated. First, let's look at this chart I made and get some preliminary questions out of the way.

So in the "Was Never Going to Happen" category we have Tristan and Marty. While we may have enjoyed the banter between Tristan and Rory, I don't think either of them were ever interested in being a REAL couple. When Tristan moved away, they seemed to be at least somewhat friends and I was satisfied with that. Marty, on the other hand, really did want to be Rory's boyfriend. But honestly, she just wasn't interested in him. He was in the friend zone for real. So these two guys are just out of the running.

And Logan is in the "Never Should've Happened" category. UGH LOGAN. I can hardly even write about him without getting angry. How could Rory have ever thought this guy was right for her? I know so many other GG fans have a different opinion about him, but I'm sorry, no. He was wrong for her from the beginning to the end. He derailed her entire life y'all.

So that leaves us with Dean and Jess. The ACTUAL competitors. And honestly, I think they both had times when they were right for Rory and times when they weren't.

Dean was seriously the best boyfriend she ever had. He was a little jealous, especially when Jess came around, and that was off-putting, but overall he was so good to her! He even changed the water bottle! In my opinion, if she would've stayed with Dean, he would've been the right choice. HOWEVER, she chose to break up with him, he got married to someone else, and they went their separate ways. As soon as Dean chose to get married, he was the wrong choice for Rory. But they decided to have an affair anyway, Dean's marriage was ruined, and Rory moved on to dating Logan. So that was a hot mess.

Jess on the other hand, was a terrible boyfriend. He loved her, I think, but wasn't capable of treating her well. But towards the end he comes back and he's beginning his career as a writer, he's gotten his life together, and he helps Rory to put her life back together too. Unfortunately, she chooses to stay with stupid Logan at this point, but she goes back to Yale and reconnects with Lorelai. Jess was wrong for Rory in the beginning, but in the end, I think he would've been her best option.

But who knows. Maybe she'll meet someone on the campaign trail for Obama (what?).

  1. I pretend she met someone on the campaign trail...ugh. Jess 2.0 (published author Jess) was probably her best bet, but she missed the boat. Logan SUUUUCKED!!! Spoiled lil rich kid who totally derailed her and left her not talking to her BFF mom for like a YEAR. Ew, no. And Dean... he was a good first boyfriend, but IMO you don't marry your HS boyfriend. Unless you did Corinna, which I totally support. =P
